Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is a small beautiful national park just about 29km from Arusha Town, perfect for day excursions from booth Arusha and Moshi towns. The park is renowned for its topographical variety and lush beauty. The park has three significant features; Mount Meru, the Momela Lakes, and the Ngurdoto Crater.
Mount Meru is Tanzania's second highest peak at 4566m, and the 5th highest in Africa. It offers a more spectacular view than its neighbour, Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest in Africa. It makes for a good hiking excursion and is popular with residents of Arusha Town.
The Momela lakes are a collection of shallow lakes that reflect noticably different hues of blue or green. They are surrounded by a lush green rainforest which hosts the very beautiful black and white Columbus monkeys.
The Ngurdoto Crater stretches 3 km's across, a steep-sided bowl surrounded by riverine forest. The crater floor is a lush swamp. The crater provides a natural sanctuary to many animals like elephant, buffalo, a variety of monkeys and baboons, as well as birds like hamerkop and the spur-winged geese. It is prohibited to descend down to the bottom of the crater.
